Silicon Carbide’s ability to withstand high temperatures, its high thermal conductivity and its low thermal expansion make SiC an excellent material for manufacturing kiln furniture such as plate setters, beams and rollers to be used in any high-temperature application.
Technical ceramics made from SiC have high strength and hardness, combined with excellent corrosion resistance at high temperatures.
The ceramic component can be densified using various forming techniques including slip casting, dry pressing and extrusion. Most kiln furniture is bonded by recrystallization or else reaction-bonded by adding carbon to a blend of SiC powder and fire on a bed of silicon metal.
