SiCMa - Silicon Carbide Manufacturers' Association
In our view, it is of utmost importance that our commitment towards health and safety is shared by as many SiC producers as possible. This is why SiCMa was created in 2000, with the main objective to promote all initiatives aimed at improving health, safety and environment preservation in the activities of production and processing of silicon carbide.
Saint-Gobain is one of the founding members of SiCMa and stays actively involved.
SiCMa is interacting with all parties (regulatory authorities, public laboratories) involved with the SiC industry products.
For example, SiCMa collaborated with the European authorities to work out a "BAT-Best Available Technique" for producing SiC. SiCMa also reviewed with experts the scientific evidence, and conducted additional studies, demonstrating the absence of specific toxicity of SiC grains sold on the market. This information will allow the SiCMa Companies to fulfill their obligations under the new European regulation on chemicals, REACH.
SiCMa Companies are also pro-active in informing their customers on these issues. They adopted a voluntary labelling practice displayd below.
